Target Audience

The Universities of Bern and Basel offer an elite Master’s degree in International and Monetary Economics with an additional, unique, optional module on financial markets, banking and prudential regulation. This program is in English and is run jointly by the two Universities.

We aim at ambitious, willing to be challended students with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from anywhere in the World who have a strong background in economics (or related fields). A solid foundation (or, a willingness to acquire it) in empirical-quantitative methods is absolutely essential.

The MIME program prepares students for careers in central banks, international institutions, financial regulatory authorities, policy-analysis departments of commercial banks and government agencies dealing with fiscal policy, international economics and financial markets. It also serves as a springboard for pursuing doctoral studies not only in Switzerland but also at the top US or European Universities.

Switzerland is ideally suited to the MIME program as it is home to many interational institutions, has a large banking sector, runs independent monetary policy, is a very open economy and has a well known financial regulation agency.
